Blackburn with Darwen, 18th May 2018 : Today Blackburn with Darwen’s competition swimming club Blackburn Centurions announces the club’s fourteen swimmers who have qualified for the Northwest Summer Championships. The objective of the Championships is to bring together the fastest swimmers in the North West Region together to compete in the various disciplines.
Blackburn Centurions Coach, Darren Newsham, from Darwen, says “We are proud with all the hard work the swimmers have put in to attain this level of performance. We have a strong, young and dynamic squad and we expect all of our swimmers to perform well across the separate events in Manchester and Liverpool. We will be looking for potential National places from some of our swimmers.”

Nick Hartshorne-Evans Chair of Blackburn Centurions comments that “ The club are delighted with the number of swimmers who have qualified for what are tough qualifying times for the Northwest Summer Championships. The progression, by not only these fourteen swimmers but also the many others in the club is encouraging. Blackburn Centurions are really making some waves again across the North West region .”

Blackburn Centurions, based at Darwen Leisure Centre is a competitive Swim England affiliated and SwimMark Essential Club, the only in the Borough of Blackburn with Darwen. Swimmers compete and represent Blackburn Centurions across many competitive events where swimmers gain ASA times to qualify for County, Regional and National Championships. Ana Hopkin recently won a Bronze Medal at the Commonwealth Games in Australia 2018, she started her swimming career at Blackburn Centurions. The club trains at Daisyfield swimming pool Monday and Tuesday and at Darwen Leisure Centre Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. To contact the club for further details please email
