Lancashire Counties

Blackburn with Darwen, Monday 21st January 2019: Blackburn with Darwen’s performance swimming club Blackburn Centurions announces the club’s twenty swimmers who have qualified for the Lancashire County Championships. The objective of the Championships is to bring together the fastest swimmers from swimming clubs in Greater Manchester, Lancashire and Merseyside together to compete in the various disciplines. Blackburn Centurions has been a consistent contributor of swimmers every year. This year sees some our younger swimmers making the step up.

Blackburn Centurions Coach, Darren Newsham, from Darwen, says “This is a culmination of the team’s hard work in training and the dedication it takes to get to this level. All the coaching staff are delighted to see our swimmers realise all their hard work and how their success ripples across the club to all the other swimmers we have in the club. We have a strong, young and dynamic team and we expect all of our swimmers to perform well across the separate events in Manchester and Liverpool. We will be looking for potential Regional places from our swimmers.”

Nick Hartshorne-Evans Chair of Blackburn Centurions comments that “This is a great achievement for all the swimmers. Every year it demonstrates consistent hard work and dedication and it is so satisfying for the whole club to get behind the team.  The club is delighted with the number of swimmers who have qualified for what are tough qualifying times. The progression, by not only these twenty swimmers but also the many others in the club, is encouraging. Blackburn Centurions are really making some waves again across the North West region. Outside of the pool, we have invested significant energy to portray “Team Centurions” across the borough with a new website, Under Armour Team Kit, linkage with schools and a new dynamic committee who are all volunteers. If we continue our positive curve with the help of our dedicated volunteers, Swim England and Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council Blackburn Centurions will continue to go from strength to strength.

Blackburn Centurions, based at Darwen Leisure Centre is a competitive Swim England affiliated and SwimMark Essential Club, the only in the Borough of Blackburn with Darwen. Swimmers compete and represent Blackburn Centurions across many competitive events where swimmers gain ASA times to qualify for County, Regional and National Championships.
