Blackburn Centurions, Blackburn with Darwen’s Performance Swimming Club has just launched it’s new campaign to help build awareness of the club to schools, teachers, parents and guardians across East Lancashire and specifically Blackburn with Darwen and the surrounding areas.

The campaign is focussed on Blackburn with Darwen swimming and highlighting that there are options to join a competitive swimming club and to excel and perform representing your local club in galas and competitions across Lancashire, the North West and Nationally.

Six Blackburn Centurions chosen to represent North Lancashire in the Inter Association Gala

Blackburn with Darwen, 4thJune 2018 : Today Blackburn with Darwen’s competition swimming club Blackburn Centurions is proud to announce that six of some of its promising crop of young swimmers have been chosen to represent North Lancashire in the Inter Association Gala on the 24thJune 2018.

Blackburn Centurions Coach, Darren Newsham, from Darwen, says “What a great result! The six swimmers chosen to represent North Lancashire have all worked hard to achieve their selection and the whole club and all the coaches are very proud to have Blackburn Centurions representing North Lancashire. We are looking for some PB’s and wins from our swimmers and we wish the whole team good luck in their endeavours to beat teams from all over the North West of England ”

Nick Hartshorne-Evans Chair of Blackburn Centurions comments that “ The club are delighted with six of our swimmers being chosen to represent North Lancashire. The progression, by the club over the past 12 months has been all down to the hard work, dedication and teamwork of all involved. Go Centurions Go! We are very proud to represent the borough of Blackburn with Darwen.”

Blackburn Centurions, based at Darwen Leisure Centre is a competitive Swim England affiliated and SwimMark Essential Club, the only in the Borough of Blackburn with Darwen. Swimmers compete and represent Blackburn Centurions across many competitive events where swimmers gain ASA times to qualify for County, Regional and National Championships. Ana Hopkin recently won a Bronze Medal at the Commonwealth Games in Australia 2018, she started her swimming career at Blackburn Centurions. The club trains at Daisyfield swimming pool Monday and Tuesday and at Darwen Leisure Centre Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. Blackburn Centurions name their 2018 “MicroLeague” Captains

Blackburn with Darwen, 23rd April 2018 : Today Blackburn with Darwen’s competition swimming club Blackburn Centurions announces the club’s two “MicroLeague Northwest” captains for 2018. The objective of the League is to encourage competitive swimming for young swimmers between the ages of 9 and 12 years, and to determine which team will go forward to represent The League in the Arena Junior Inter League Competition during that year. This team will be awarded the “North West Micro League Trophy”, which will be held for one year.

Holly Brown, aged 11, a pupil of DACA and Ethan Colman, aged 11, a pupil of Westholme School have been named the Girls and Boys Captains respectively. Both swimmers are ‘North West Regional Level” swimmers and will lead their teams into the 2018 MicroLeague season.

Blackburn Centurions MicroLeague coach, Neil Brown, from Darwen, says “Ethan and Holly are great role models for the club and the MicroLeague swimmers. For many of the swimmers it’s their first competitive competition representing the club. Ethan and Holly lead by example encouraging all the swimmers to maximise their potential.”

Nick Hartshorne-Evans the new Chair of Blackburn Centurions comments that “Blackburn Centurions is renowned for its support at poolside and raising the roof of many a pool around the North West with its superb team camaraderie. Swimming is often regarded as an individual sport and this league is a great way of building team and club spirit and forming lifelong friendships. The club is focussed on developing and nurturing leadership skills and we wish Ethan and Holly all the best in their role.”

Blackburn Centurions, based at Darwen Leisure Centre is a competitive Swim England affiliated and SwimMark accredited club. The MicroLeague is one of a number of competitions in which the club participates. Blackburn Centurions send 14 swimmers to North West Regional Championships

Blackburn with Darwen, 18th May 2018 : Today Blackburn with Darwen’s competition swimming club Blackburn Centurions announces the club’s fourteen swimmers who have qualified for the Northwest Summer Championships. The objective of the Championships is to bring together the fastest swimmers in the North West Region together to compete in the various disciplines.
Blackburn Centurions Coach, Darren Newsham, from Darwen, says “We are proud with all the hard work the swimmers have put in to attain this level of performance. We have a strong, young and dynamic squad and we expect all of our swimmers to perform well across the separate events in Manchester and Liverpool. We will be looking for potential National places from some of our swimmers.”
